Some of my poems

The gift

look at the world around
how beautiful and blue
imagine how would it be
without those incredible two

you call them friends
you call them twins
for all say they both are such
they look alike very much

how many times did this couple
not save you from trouble
they always serve delight
whenever they face light

the flying bird the twinkling stars
the land and skies above
are nothing but their gift to us
lets thank the lord above

when you are old or about to leave
the best thing in the world to give
to relieve of misery and despair
would indeed be this wonderful pair.

The fate of kings

He was neither the brave lion nor the fierce tiger
But like the mountain, big, powerful and strong
Among all others in the forest, his head was higher
He was the old banyan tree who had stood there for long

He was a home to many pigeons and parrots
The wood pecker and his family lived in the trunk
At the roots sat the bunny, munching his carrots
At the top sat the stupid monkey pretending to be drunk

The workaholic tiny ants who usually thought
Every part of him was meant for them, to walk
And in the noon when the sun was blazing hot
The elephants sat in his shade to rest and to talk

He provided them with shelter, did every kind deed
He saved them from seasons, gave them every thing
Every bird and beast of the forest was proud indeed
To have this generous grand old thing for a king

Then one fine morning, a woodcutter came looking for wood
And with his sharp shining axe, cut the tree down
For the want of money, furniture or may be mere firewood
It was a pity! The king of the forest was gone.

Thousands of kings lose the war each day
Their fight for survival has been crushed by man
For greed, lust or game, they become his prey
Prevent the forests from wiping out if you can

Forests show us the path of rebirth
As they have millions of gifts to give
It is forests that make our planet earth
A happy and truly wonderful place to live

The days gone by

Our best moments of life
Are of those days gone by
Tears of happiness roll in our eyes
When we think of those sweet old days

Reminding us of the old friends
Once with us and now no more
Reminding us of our parents
And the love they had for us

And sometimes when the heart is tired
It looks back at the past for relief
We smile at ourselves at our simple deeds
At our thoughts and our aspirations

The days that had gone by
Had moments of both pain and joy
But we still crave for them
Like a child for its very first toy

On the plains, the plateau and the shore
As long as there is the land and the sky
Nothing will ever touch our hearts more
Than memories of those days gone by.

The day hope died

Down came the deadly wind To ask as if "can nothing bind?" Nature’s calamitous power and might, Adversity; and the farmer's plight The dreary night when it was just away All that people could do, was pray They heard the roar and its piercing cry But hoped that it would just pass by When the savage made its way into the land They watched helplessly, longing for a helping hand For some lost wives and some lost lives Crying, this is what happens when nature jibes Everything was over, both bad and sad As no one knew whose son was this lad? People started to fight for shelter and food Because, being humane fetched them no good Even when the whole country struck with grief People still waited for the much-needed relief There was total loss of power and communication Everyone blamed the management and the situation The age is hi-tech; but still, the pity is This is not England, America or Greece The government said, "I had done my job" But alas! The poor man was left to sob He was still reluctant to leave For he, his family and a wooden heave A small farm, a few vessels and a knife Were the only earnings of his entire life Still we find the children fight and play Not with toys and mud and clay But with epidemic and disease Remembering their dear ones the storm did sieze Their hearts recite from time to time But this time not the same old rhyme "Rain, rain never come again All you left us with, is pain” Another day something else will happen again When thousands will be left stranded in vain And then, countless innocent hearts will burn But the value of life, we will never learn

Some One Remembers You

Somewhere someone is fond of you
When you are awake and when asleep too
And wishes all your dreams come true
To remind that someone is thinking of you

Beneath the shadow of the sky so blue
There lies a heart, which beats as new
In your happiness and your troubles too
Someone wants to stand by you

When the countless stars are staring at you
How many they are? You have no clue
Where ever you be, whatever you do
Somewhere someone misses you

Longing

When I am doing nothing and sitting in a place
I know, I am doing something
I am thinking of those sweet childhood days
Captivated and unknowingly smiling

Those silly things I used to do
Those lovely dragonflies I caught
Those colorful kites I flew
I know, I can forget them not

I wondered why the earth was round?
And why I could not fly?
Where the rainbow's end could be found?
And why the sky was high?

How I used to play in the rain
And tried to skip school some how
How much I liked to wave to a train
I wish I could do them now

The past is the best place to be
With all the goodies in the sack
This feeling is not unique to me
Who doesn't want his childhood back?

Those memories of a life care free
Of fun and fear and joy and cry
Will always remain with me
Tickling me till the time I die.

Caring for those who cared

I saw an old woman begging on the roadside
With a piece of her saree spread across wide
She was small and perhaps weak too
I could barely see there a penny or two
My hands ran into my pockets to find at least something
Although my mind knew very well I had nothing
I only wished I could help I was desperate
Such moments of life I really hate
I went to her and asked oh woman
Why do you do this? Don’t you have a daughter or a son?
I have a son, she said as she looked at me
I was a burden he discarded me
Those few words touched me and they touched me so deep
All the night I was awake for I couldn't get any sleep
Her image flashed in my eyes through out the night
In my heart I could possibly feel all her plight
Her life was miserable, I could only pity
For her a meal a day was necessity
Two a day was comfort and three a luxury
Only god knew what saved her from death's fury
Every night i eat and sleep for which I am very glad
But at the same time she's both happy and very sad
Happy because, a day full of troubles is finally over
Sad because the next day is slowly getting nearer
Why did she suffer she hadn’t committed any sin
She’s fighting a battle she’s never going to win
When she thinks of her son she can't help crying
The fear of living is greater than the fear of dying...

Not every one in this world is a parent
Mysteriously, every one is some one's child
Some people do any thing to be called a parent
Some people don’t do a thing to be called a child

The next day on the same roadside
To give her some money I left
I found her lying with a smile so wide
She gave to the world she had left

Her son will never come to know
Nor does he care for it any way
Perhaps the poor fellow doesn't know
He’ll meet the same fate some day

From Rags to riches

Every second or two a child is born
The population clock goes on and on
Every one knows how serious the problem is
But no one really has a solution for this

The govt can’t make the strictest of rules for all
Because, if it does, it may a have a great fall
When our leaders have children nine or ten
How will they lead us out of this monster's den?

It’s every one's fault because no one cares
To come out and speak no one dares
We cannot hope that someone else will save
Its quite clear, we are digging our own grave

On one side we have unemployment and poverty
On the other, we have malnutrition and illiteracy
And the new born children, having nothing to please
Will share amongst themselves all of these

In this case, there surely would be a day
I can only hope, it is far far away
No education, no land, no house to rest
No fuel, no jobs, no food would be left

Lets come closer for a brighter day
To pluck it from the roots and throw it away
A girl or a boy, only one will do
So that we can give not only food,
But happiness too.

Who’s mad?

He who thinks the sky is a cocoon of silk
And the oceans combined is a drop of milk
And a sword is but a blade of grass 'oh, that lad'
He must either be a genius or totally mad

He was not a genius in any way
He roamed on the streets, all the day
Wearing only the dirty trousers he had
So, people decided to call him mad

He lost his family once and so he pined
It was then, when he also lost his mind
After the tragedy so full of pain
He never ever did weep again

One day he would fly like a bird
And on the other he wouldn’t utter a single word
Then all of a sudden he would dance all right
And sing along with the dogs at night

He knew the language of all the lands
Because all the evil spirits were his friends
He had rubies, pearls and lots of gold
He surely was the king of the world

He could even jump from the sky
Because he knew he couldn't die
He was much stronger than the super man
And i had never seen a happier man

All the people called him mad
Just because he was never sad
They were jealous of this young lad
They couldn't make out who was mad

Away from this mad world's frown
This mad boy was so happy by his own
There is so much for a mad man to gain
We must pity ourselves for being sane.

The dead soldier

There was absolute silence in the woods
Which was repeatedly broken by the birds
Lifeless bodies were scattered all around
Like unworthy wild flowers on the ground

The captain found a little white sheet
Hiding beneath a dead soldier's feet
Out of curiosity, he picked up the sheet of paper
And read out the anguish of the dead soldier

It was a letter addressed to
His family and countrymen too
"I fought till the end and did my best"
"That’s all I have to say before my everlasting rest"

The captain understood the irony in his words
And smiled to himself inwards
No one is going to regret his death and his fate
What is one soldier in the affairs of a state?

To die for no personal need
Is the greatest heroic deed
But still our greatest heroes are
Only those who declare the war

Life is the most precious thing one can find
More valuable than all the wealth combined
The brave soldier is ready to give it away
So that we are safe in the homes we stay

The captain buried the letter in the dead soldier's grave
Saluted the unsung hero 'glorious and brave'
And said,” We all have to go where we came from"
Deep down he knew his time was to come.

The dog with wings

One day I saw a dog with wings
This isn't a fairy tale of queens and kings
I saw it fly with the canary, which sings
It wasn’t an elephant or a rabbit or a hog
I very well knew, it was a dog

So, I told my people about its curly tail
About it's wings and it's elegant quail
But they simply mocked my silly tale
"You have been dreaming a lot", they said
"There is definitely something wrong in your head"

What I told them, didn’t seem so nice
Because, they hadn't seen it with their own eyes
They said,” We aren't stupid to believe your lies "
"Such a creature has never been "
"No one on earth has ever seen"

I tried to convince them, but in vain
On the moon, there could be rain
But their confidence, I couldn't gain
"Then why do you people believe in God?"
"Looking at every one, I cried aloud

Hell, no one has ever seen
To heaven no one has ever been
Does god exist I am very keen
How can you turn a blind eye to my story?
When you can be so rational about god's glory

They said,” the ways of god are grand"
You’ve got to be more mature to understand
That god made the sky, water and land
You can never question his existence
Nor can you ever disprove his presence

The reason may be either way
I could commit a mistake or they may
But, if I am hallucinating; so are they
The primitive man's god was born out of fear
The modern man ignores the facts so clear

Why didn't they believe me? I thought
They don’t really care about
What’s the truth and what's not?
These mad people are quite blunt
And will believe only what they want.

Ephemera

All grass and a single flower
Wet with dew drops, just after the shower
Ah! How well did it bloom!
Like happiness in the valley of gloom

The sky was still dark and dull
After the thunder, there was this lull
The clouds parted, and sunlight rushed in
And fell on the flower and made it grin

As it swayed to the gentle zephyr
Up and down and there and here
I felt I heard a sweet melodious song
Which had gone unnoticed for long

But the lovely bright orange sun
Who was so very gentle until then
Turned jealous, and then hot and red
I knew, fate had shown its ugly head

And why my love we had to part
All I am left with is a broken heart
At night, I hoped it would find some dew
But the lonely flower has died with you
